The Babington Arms – Derby, DE1 1TA

The Babington Arms sits on the outskirts of Derby city centre, having opened in 1997 and reviving the name of a pub which stood just down the road until it closed in the 1920s.

The pub inhabits the ground floor of a block of offices, with the more traditional and somewhat dated blue-and-gold J.D. Wetherspoon aesthetic. Large planters, hanging baskets and flowerpots decorate the outside of the pub and the frontage folds open to offer a slightly elevated terrace area for outdoor seating during the warmer weather.

The interior of the pub feels very traditional, a deep but narrow pub with dark wood panelling throughout. Tables are plentiful and spaced out, with some booths and banquette seating towards the rear. Much of the furniture feels quite aged and worn out, and patterned wallpaper on the ceilings adds to the dated feel.

The folding frontage provides a seating area with an indoor/outdoor feel whilst some of the street has been claimed for an outside seating/smoking area.

To the rear is a dart board (with what appears to be a folding oche) and some board games which can be enjoyed.

The toilets are quite large, with pleasant tiling and the covered windows offer an interesting blue glow from outside.
