Wetherspoons – Milton Keynes, MK9 1EA

This is quite an individual Wetherspoons, set in a large unit surrounded by car parking and pavement. With the exception of the outdated Wetherspoons sign, the building looks quite modern, though it was actually built back in the 90s. The building has a short history and its simple name, but the glass building with its sleek metal roof is quite impressive in itself.

The pub is a fairly modern, standalone steel and glass building, quite rare for a Wetherspoons but fitting for a city such as Milton Keynes. Whilst there are other identical units nearby, it is quite an imposing structure, though the glass walls and wraparound outside seating area make it quite an inviting and approachable pub. There seems to be very little history to the pub, unfortunately; the menu itself only speaks of the history of Wetherspoon (noting that this pub shares its name with the chain’s first pub) and texts around the pub give information only on Milton Keynes and Bradwell Abbey.

The pub retains its traditional ‘Spoons feel with a huge amount of spaced-out seating throughout the large building, whilst still retaining quite a unique feel. The unit has a somewhat industrial feel to it, with high ceilings showcasing the corrugated roof and quite decorative curved steel support beams. All three of the main walls of the pub are glass, giving it an incredibly bright and airy feel, though blinds and air conditioning keep the pub cool even when the temperature outside nears 30 degrees, as was the case on our visit.

Male toilets of Wetherspoons in Milton Keynes.

Whilst reasonably large, the toilets are fairly basic, using quite a standard ‘Spoons design and making no real efforts to introduce any flair.
